最新号外，前众议院议长Newt Gingrich拿下第三站南卡州共和党初选。本周共和党选情一波三折。先是Iowa州的选票重新计算后，Mitt Romney以30票之差屈居第二，让Rick Santorum 成为赢家。19号在Charlston南卡第二轮辩论中，Mitt Ronmney因为回答私人税务问题不慎，丧失大片民心。这样三州过后，居然三驾齐驱，是米国政治几十年未有之气象。

Just watched Newt Gingrich's speech in South Carolina, very well said. Especially the part where he talked about he will make American energy independent by drilling for domestic oil immediately, this is a policy that's long overdue. He also indicated he would approve the keystone pipeline project which will be good news for Canada.
America needs a President who is willing to uphold the trasitional values of the country, who is practical and strong on economic policy. If the economy does not turn around soon, Obama's chance to get reelected would be rather bleak

Changes in oil policy wouldn't be made easily. Obama personally endorses the keystone project, but under enormous pressure from environmentalists, he had to disapprove it despite the obvious economic benefits. It's easy for Newt to make all kinds of appealing promises, let's see if he can convince most of the republican voters and keep those promises.

Obama's change in his position towards the Keystone pipeline is obviously a result of his political calculation. The pressures from those environmentalists are not that enormous for there are not many of them. But by approving this project Obama will not win any votes. Those who oppose his reelection will not change their minds. Most independent voters have already made their minds. They will not support him whether or not he approves this project. Obama would not offend those enviromentlists, his most reliable supporters, for something that does not help his reelection. This is just another example that Obama never puts the interests of the nation above his personal interests.
